File formats for your projection motif

Vector files

Vector data describes simple to complex graphics using mathematical formulas that define the origin, direction, size, colour, etc. of an area or line. The main advantage of a vector file is that the graphics can be resized to any size without any loss of quality.

File formats: Best suited for:
  • Portable Document Format (.pdf)
  • Encapsulated Postscript (.eps)
  • Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
  • Corel Draw (.cdr)
  • Affinity Designer (.afdesign)
  • Black & White
  • Black & Colour
  • Colour 1
  • Colour 2
  • Colour 3

Pixel files

Pixel data is best suited for reproducing photographic motifs. All digital cameras and scanners generate pixel data. Pixel data cannot be enlarged beyond the size of the original file without losing quality. Large files are often required for detailed and sharp photographic images.

File formats: Best suited for:
  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, Quality ‘high’ or ‘maximum’)
  • PNG (.png)
  • TIFF (.tif, .tiff, also with compression)
  • Adobe Photoshop (.psd)
  • Affinity Photo (.afphoto)
  • Greyscale
  • Multicolour

To avoid difficulties in displaying character sets, fonts in vector files should be converted entirely into paths. Please rasterise Photoshop layers containing text before sending.
If you are unsure about the correct file format, we will be happy to advise you. The rules listed above are intended to serve as a simplified guide.

The right colours for your projection motif

Dichroic colour filters stand out for their top colour purity and brilliance. There’s a range of 18 standard filters to choose from to give your subject the colours you want. Special colours that fit perfectly with your corporate design can be created either by mixing colours or, for larger quantities, by using custom-made colour filters.

All colour specifications refer to a projection with a light source calibrated to 6500° Kelvin on a neutral white projection surface. Please also note that every screen displays colours differently. Colour deviations in this representation are due to technical reasons and cannot be avoided.

Projection motifs in all sizes

Derksen manufactures glass gobos ranging from 22.5 to 105 mm in diameter for all projection systems available on the market.

Gobo size – Image size

  • The gobo size is equal to the outer diameter of the gobo.
  • The image size represents the maximum image area that the projector can display.

Due to the wide variety of projection systems and constant technical changes made by device manufacturers, we are unable to archive reliable data on gobo and image sizes. Therefore, please specify the current dimensions of your gobo with every enquiry. This information can be found in the manufacturer’s data sheets or in the operating instructions supplied with the device.
