Project Description

The historical listed building of the old post office is located in the centre of Mülheim a. d. Ruhr, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. On three floors it shelters the Ziegler collection of  the 20th century art which includes masterpieces from Feiniger, Kirchner, Marc, Macke and others. The reconstruction and modernization of the building took place in 2007 – 2008 and was planned by architect Karsten Weber, rheinfluegel baukunst, Duesseldorf. Weber also implemented the graphic light projections in the backyard. During the night light circles are projected on the building, using Derksen GL1200 outdoor projection systems which are mounted on masts. The geometrical light pattern lies on the façade like a second skin and provides a modern interpretation of the former official building. At night the functional-representative architecture appears in a playful, easy light.
