Why do LED lights need cooling?

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) consist of semiconductor materials that must not be heated like the filament of an incandescent lamp. The  lifespan and brightness of an LED decrease when the operating temperature exceeds a limit. Efficient cooling therefore guarantees the reliability and brightness of a projector.
